As a therapist I see myself as a catalyst for secure relationships, advocate and educator. I am here as a person to help educate you in mental health issues and relational issues, advocate for those who cannot and encourage those to advocate for themselves as well as person who will sit with another in the uncomfortable. I consider it an honor to be able to sit with individuals and families while they heal and grow. I provide safety for my clients to explore and process the stressors that occur in life in a judgement free space. I believe in meeting my clients where they are in life and tailor my skills around what works best for them. I believe that people are the experts of their lives and have the strengths within them to overcome any challenge they face. I work with adults and teens, when their family is involved in therapy (please note I no longer see teens individually, but will work with the family unit). I also run group workshops and assist with parenting concerns either through workshops, individual therapy or family. I am a big proponent of Mindfulness and run workshops as well as incorporate these practices into individual sessions.

I often work with adults who experience chronic panic, anxiety, depression and have a history trauma. I enjoy helping those who struggle with suicidal ideation or have had suicide attempts and/ or those who self injure currently or previously. These can be such dark places to navigate and difficult to talk about. I am here to help you guide yourself through these difficult times to a place of hope.

I also often work with people who have experienced significant trauma in their lifetime and struggle with healing their past experiences through research based approaches. These approaches assist people with learning about healthy relationships, boundaries, secure attachment, and skills to help regulate your nervous system. When we have been living our lives in a state of panic or people pleasing we have to learn what our true authentic self is. Creating a new identity and living authentically through your values is possible.

My approach is one of creativity and integration of therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), experiential therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am trained and considered a Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI) Practitioner. A lot of what I practice is based on the Polyvagal Theory and Attachment Theory.

I am trained and practice in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) which is an evidence based trauma therapy that utilizes eye movements similar to that seen in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) but focuses on images. I love ART because it allows the client to not have to speak their trauma to me if they do not want to or feel stuck. ART is also great for a number of other issues such as OCD, Anxiety, Depression and more. It allows me and my clients be creative in helping them get unstuck.

I collaborate with my clients and assist in helping them find what might be missing in the bigger picture of their lives. I specialize in what is called experiential therapy, meaning I help clients view and process their difficulties through a deeper emotional experience with the incorporation of talk therapy. Forms of experiential therapy I practice include: Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT), and various activities to help people process in the way that is most helpful for them.

I received my master’s in counseling from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have training in CBT from the Beck Institute, which allows me to help clients with negative or unhelpful thoughts. I am also a certified EAGALA therapist, meaning I am trained to integrate horses and other farm animals to help people heal through equine psychotherapy. I also have training from North Texas University in Animal Assisted Therapy. I am a certified Animal Assisted Therapist through the Animal Assisted Therapy Program of Colorado.

While I have training in various types of therapy, such as art therapy, Natural Lifemanship, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and more I am not certified and may or may not use these models in therapy. If you have questions about certifications or my training, please contact me directly.

I look forward to using my knowledge, training, and experience to walk beside you on this path towards healing and growth.

I am Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina, meaning I can only see clients in the state of North Carolina. However, I can see clients virtually within the borders of North Carolina. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider (BC-TMH) and a Certified Animal Assisted Psychotherapist (CAAP).
