What does Teen Therapy look like?

While the focus is on the client, Davidson Family Therapy believes that when working with teenagers it is important to occasionally implement the family as a whole, as the family is a a critical factor in their development. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of counseling; however when necessary parents of the teenager will be invited into session or informed in other ways to ensure that the growth that occurs in a counseling session continues at home with the help of the parents.

Why choose Teen Therapy?

Being the parent of a teenager is hard, but so is being a teenager. Adolescence is a tricky time in a person’s life.

Developmentally, teenagers are just beginning to learn what independence is in terms of  their identity, social life, school, and beliefs. Adolescents are  also starting to understand the concept of abstract thinking and often times do not have the mental capacity to comprehend these thoughts the way an adult would. Teenagers experience an overload of emotions, and most of them have trouble knowing what to do with these emotions. All of the sudden everything is a big deal and often times this leaves parents feel annoyed and defeated. Along with their emotional and cognitive development, their physical body and hormones are also changing.
