Family Therapy

We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.

What is Family Therapy?

Life can be challenging while managing careers, finances, health, and family. In family counseling, the entire family is considered a cohesive unit. We aim to strengthen that cohesion by supporting the tenets of communication, support, and trust. Even while we are all individuals, it is through our relationships with others that we are at our best.

How does Family Therapy help?

In family counseling the therapist joins the family unit. With a trained ear and skills, the therapist is able to uncover the communication issues or other problems occurring within the family. The therapist will then bring awareness to the family and assist them in being able to work together on a solution. A family is a team, that sometimes gets divided. The therapist is not there to take sides, and will not take sides. The therapist is on the “side” of the family as a whole, not one individual.

What does Family Therapy look like?

Family counseling can be very hard for some individuals. Often times, family members know the good, the bad, and the ugly, but still love you any way. Other times, one individual in the family feels singled out or labeled the “black sheep".  Family therapists can help to strengthen family member's bond. The therapist will determine whether the session is structured with activities or talking points, or an open-ended therapy session, where anything goes.

Why choose Family Therapy?

Often times when an individual experiences a stressor it can have a direct impact on the family as a whole.  Such as, parents getting a divorce, or a family member struggling with suicide or substance abuse. If you or a family member is experiencing a mental health issue, or other problem that is effecting the whole family, then you should consider family counseling for your family.
