As a person who believes in the power of choosing to learn and grow through relationships with self and others, I am honored to be in a position to facilitate spaces for you and your loved ones as you work toward healthier and more helpful ways of being and doing.  My approach to therapy is collaborative and systemic, meaning that I believe that through the process of our work together, new possibilities and potential solutions can emerge and new ways of relating can be practiced and cultivated.

I recognize that therapy can be a scary, vulnerable and humbling experience which often spurs challenging conversations and difficult emotions.  Choosing to reach out for help is a courageous move, one that comes with some uncertainty and one that requires some faith.  My aim is to create as much safety and warmth as possible for you as you show up to do work that may be both difficult and integral to creating positive change

My approach to therapy is collaborative and integrative, which means that I believe that clients and the therapist are a team and that I can integrate a variety of therapy modalities and tools in order to tailor therapy to the unique needs of each individual, couple, or family.  My theoretical base is in family systems theory with special interests in emotion-focused, experiential, solution-focused, and narrative modalities.  I also see the potential benefit of incorporating mindfulness practices in to our work together as it often provides clients with more options for regulating strong emotions and increasing self-awareness when conflict arises.

Because I see the you as an expert on your experience and I allow our relationship to lead the direction for therapy, each course of treatment is as unique as the individuals, couples, and families I serve.  In couple and family therapy, the relationships between therapy participants become the focus of treatment, and I function as an advocate for the couple or family rather than taking the side of any one member.  In individual therapy, I will advocate for the relationship you have with yourself.

I am a licensed LMFTA (Marriage and Family Therapist Associate) in North Carolina, and I have a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University.
