When a child is going through a difficult time, it can put a strain on the entire family. Like adults, children often experience anxiety and depression when they are faced with challenges, although they may need extra support to identify their feelings and express them in a helpful way. Children are naturally resilient and creative, and can thrive in therapy that is tailored to meet their needs and age level. In my practice, I help children move past their current obstacles and develop the self-confidence and coping skills to navigate difficulties they may encounter in the future.
I specialize in therapy with young children, and also provide trauma-informed therapy for youth and young adults. I believe that children’s therapy should be a playful, empowering experience that builds on a child’s strengths while drawing from relevant research. I integrate cognitive-behavioral skills with art, play, and drama therapy techniques to help children and parents find solutions to their problems in a fun, safe environment.
I received my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, and have pursued additional training in several child-specific forms of therapy including Child-Parent Psychotherapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. I am one of the only therapists in the area to be certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a specialized treatment for child and young adult survivors of trauma and loss. I am also a Registered Drama Therapist candidate, and have focused my study on the use of drama therapy techniques with children and trauma survivors.
